Past profession: In a past life I used to be a Chartered Quantity Surveyor working in the UK and Africa for about 20 years, involved with everything for low cost housing, high rise developments, mariners and diamond sorting buildings. During the later part of this period I moved out of my role as a senior surveyor and became the computer manager for my partnerships.

Current work: Since 1995 I have ran my own one-man business as ByIndex Associates. This involves Database Development and Project Management services along with Corporate Training. The cold weather and grind of daily life in the UK finally broke me and I relocated myself and business to Brisbane Australia late 1999.

Audio Interests: I mention my father on another page as being responsible for inflicting this interest upon me - a great gift - thank pa.

My main interest is the actual listening to music, I really think too many people get sided-lined into the technicalities of hi-fi. My only real interest in the hardware is to provide a enjoyable and true representation of a live/studio performance. However to achieve the ultimate would cost a fortune at retail prices. I’m afraid my electronic skills are nil so all I can do is have a go at speaker building which is most of this web site.

In the mid 70’s with the skilled hands of my father and me acting as the “goffer” we built a pair of Pro 9 transmission line speakers. So about 30 years later I’m having a go myself and I bet my Dad’s having a good laugh at me from above!

Other interests: well of course computer due to my business, but again more from a practical side, they are a tool and are there to perform a job and shouldn’t need to worry about the technical process’s involved?? unfortunately we still do?

I’m a Window XP user, only because most of my clients use this OS and I train applications for this system. When Linux finally gets a simple but powerful desktop database like Access - I’ll ditch MS at home.

I ride a Yamaha FJ1200 motorbike, rather old 1989 but it gets me from A to B and for 9 months of the year in Queensland is brilliant - lovely weather one day, wonderful the next. It gets a bit like driving through an oven in summer when it starts rising above 35 C. Rain, hummm - would be nice, but this is the driest continent on earth - so I don’t get wet too often
