Design

Another quick and easy page. The reason I say that is I tend not to do my own speaker designs as there are a lot of better qualified and skilled people out there doing a wonderful job in this area.

Occasionally I might try a “flier” but only as an aside, luckily the two projects I had a go at - the line array and duel full range speakers turned out okay. This is a bit “catch 22” as I’ll only do a experiment with cheap drivers so if it’s a complete flop I haven’t lost too much dosh but if it’s a success I’m not doing to get the ultimate speaker - as you pay for what you get?

Drawing

No matter how good the design is I always redraw it myself in MS Visio. I happen to train this application so it’s the tool I use but there are a load of good cheap/free drawing packages you could use. I find in redrawing the design myself it helps me understand the construction and I always draw a cutting list - I literately draw the board I’m going to cut from say 1.22 m X 2.44 m then place the panels to get the most efficient use of the board.

I often use thicker board than the original design so I make adjustments to the external dimensions to maintain the inner volume/dimensions.
