Frugal Horns [Wedgie version]A Planet10 design see - http://www.frugal-horn.com/ for extensive details and the family? This is a little job for Sean and Nagisa to go with the Shanling MC-10 Music Centre. This only has a specified 3 watts output, so the very efficient Fostex 126e will be great and and in their proposed “home” the walls “wing” out either side and will provide good corner loading as designed. I think my main worry was the 52” curve on the back of the speakers but this hasn’t turn out difficult at all with the simple jig shown below.
The above jig did the job well but there was a “mill” drift here and there on the four sides. So they were matched and routed flush and sanded smooth.
Internal “void” with back wedge - glued and clamped
So, I’m starting from the inside and working outwards. Top, back and CC base glued.
All internal baffle fixed & glued, note currently not glued to side panel. I’m using a nail gun to pin all joints for speed.
Main panels positioned and glued to first side panel.
Voids filled with sand. Speaker connector and internal wiring added.
Second side glued into place - you can NEVER have too many clamps. Damp patches are where I’ve just cleaned up on glue.
Sean & Nagisa spent Saturday afternoon trimming the suprabaffles to size and priming the backs. Today I got around to gluing the three back boards up. Then they’ll get trimmed perfectly square ready for the front baffle. And finally a 45° deep chamfer will be added to the four sides of the suprabaffle. Currently baffles are not glued to cabinet.
Suprabaffles finished, these are a pretty tight fit so initial testing/listening will be done with the in place but not glued/sealed. And as we haven’t decided on a finish yet, this may help when we do??
