Onging Tweaks

April 2006

CAOW1’s well as part of the general tidy up I was going to rebuild the cabinets for these speakers as I was quite disappointed with the iron-on veneer. Then I found an old hot air gun used to strip paint hiding in the back of one of my shed’s dusty cupboards.

Getting the veneer off wasn’t a problem but the remaining glue came off with a bit of elbow grease and the gun.

I had a bit of 1.5mm American Rock Maple ply veneer hanging around, not quite enough so I sneaked some scrap Silky Oak onto the base to finish the job. Now I’m much happier with this: -

I’ve had the CAOW1’s for about a year now and think they are excellent speakers all round. The Hiquphon tweeter is very “transparent” and the CA15 mid/bass is exactly that, good midrange and surprising bass from a small driver

These are far too good for computer speakers but I am driving them with a good amp and CD. I spend far too much time in front of the PC - so it’s a pleasure to have a good sound system while I work.
